The HVR-S270U HVR-Z7U TC/UB Menu
I had an opportunity to photograph the menus on a working HVR-S270U (preliminary US model). I’ve exported these as a movie so you can go through each frame, back and forth, and reference different menus.
Today, we’ll look at the TC/UB menu and the various settings users will have access to on these new camcorders. The HVR-S270U and the HVR-Z7U are very, very similar camcorders so almost all of the menus will be identical.
However, these images are of the S270U…
IEBA Presents: Sony Seminar: HVR-S270, HVR-Z7U
At the GV Expo 07, I had the opportunity to see the exciting new HDV camcorders. While there, I saw that Sony had a whole schedule of instructional presentations about many of there newest products.
Juan Martinez was the scheduled speaker for the HDV camcorders. His deep knowledge of the HVR-S270 and the HVR-Z7U, as well as the PMW-EX1 is clearly evident. He is able to compare and contrast numerous functions between all three of the camcorders with ease in response to audience questions.

IEBA Tech Thoughts to move…
I not only engineer and produce video as owner of IEBA Communications, I also write for Event DV magazine. Specifically, I am the HD Today columnist and a regular gear reviewer. You can see my long list of contributions online.
Event DV’s parent, Information Today, likes what I’m creating here. So this December, this blog will be changing servers to give me more capability to give you what you are looking for:
Better, bigger images.

Lowel – Mole – Arri comparison @ FreshDV
The gurus over at FreshDV have produced another handy little video guide to some Lowel, Arri and Mole lights.
Each features unique strengths and weaknesses. In the following short video, Kendal Miller walks through some of the major things we noted…the strength and construction of stands, barn doors, quality of cords and switches, and simplicity of swapping and replacing lamps.
The HVR-S270U HVR-Z7U AUDIO Menu

Lowel eXchange light Video Demo @ Fresh DV
Kendal Miller & Matthew Jeppsen over at Fresh DV have a nice demo of the new Lowel eXchange Rifa light. For those who know Rifa, but have been looking at the advantages of fluorescent lighting (cooler, much less power draw, easy to change color temperatures with inexpensive lamp swaps…) Lowel is adapting their Rifa series with a new quick-change head system…
Looking for a HD display? Then read HDTV resolution- Round 3.
Holiday shopping for a big ticket item? Home Theatre magazine has a hands-on test of 74 HDTV screens from 19 to 67 inches. they tested LCD, rear projection and Plasma.
The tests performed here are important, but they only represent aspects of each TV’s overall performance. You should not judge a TV based solely on these tests (or any single aspect of performance).
Use HVR-S270U / HVR-Z7U compact flash with new laptops!
Happy Thanksgiving (to those who celebrate Turkey Day). In preparation for tomorrow… typically the biggest shopping day of the year… I wanted to offer a suggestion. Now, I know you can’t go get Sony’s newest HDV /Compact Flash camcorders , the HVR-S270 and the HVR-Z7U, just yet.
But if you end up getting a spiffy new laptop without PC (PCMCIA) Card slots, you’ll probably have the newer, smaller ExpressCard slots. To read compact flash cards in your new laptop, you’ll need one of these…
